With a brand new skating season just around the corner we are happy to announce that we have secured the coaching expertise of Dawn Dyer again this season. Born and raised in Carlyle, Dawn brings many years of skating experience to our club. She is fully Level 1 Certified, and partially Level 2 Trained. She started skating when she was 5 years old with the Carlyle Skating Club and then later skating out of the Wawota Skating Club. She has experience as a professional figure skater, skating with Disney On Ice, Disney Pixar's Finding Nemo Ice Show. Dawn has a passion for being on the ice, and hopes to pass that on to our young skaters.

We have 24 skaters registered in our CanSkate program, 13 of these skaters are new to our club this season and we are excited to have them out on the ice! CanSkate is Canada's only certified learn-to-skate program and is designed for beginners of all ages. CanSkate places emphasis on teaching children how to skate one step at a time. Lessons are taught in a group format and children are able to progress at their own rate and actively engage in sessions where coaches use teaching aids, visuals, music and a wide variety of activities that creates not only a fun environment but also one that promotes skill development.

We currently have 9 skaters registered in our STARSkate program, Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition - this is what STARSkate is all about! STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. This program like the CanSkate program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the option of taking Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system and the option to compete in non qualifying interclub competitions.

This year we were able to offer a fall school session to all skaters involved in the Carlyle Skating Club. Fall School allows skaters to get some extra ice time for skaters that would like to get a jump start on the season. Private lessons are available with the coach during the offered days. Fall school ran from September 27 - October 26 and we had 10 skaters complete this session.

Our season officially starts on Monday, October 29th and skating lessons are offered on Mondays and Fridays. Throughout the year, a number of invitational Fun Festivals and Competitions are held across the region and province. These may range from "fun" to more competitive. These allow skaters the opportunity to compete against other skaters of the same ability, and they can be a lot of fun! And of course at the end of our season all the skaters' hard work is showcased in a year end Ice Show which takes place in March - more details will follow on this event.
