Races were held July 17 at the Bowen Rekken Memorial Track and featured more than 100 riders across 11 divisions.

鈥淚 think there was a lot of excitement [and] a lot of nerve 鈥 [with] that being the first race, most of the riders haven鈥檛 raced anywhere else yet this year,鈥 said SCRC president Kate Lees.

One race was held for each division. The results of Saturday鈥檚 races were:

Lees is unsure of the total number of spectators, but said the event was well-attended by members of the public as well as competitors.

After being delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the SCRC was finally able to host a banquet celebrating the champions of the 2020 race series on Saturday as well.

鈥淚 honestly can't tell you how many hours a week we put in just between ... finding the sponsors like doing pre-registration, doing points, doing memberships ... talking to the Government of Saskatchewan, making sure that we are good to go racing ... definitely a lot of hours put in,鈥 Lees said of the work that went into planning the 2021 race series.

Lees would particularly like to thank those who spent extra time preparing the racetrack: Brian Lees, Brad Wyatt, Joey Nelson and Chris Russell, as well as racing partners Moose Mountain Leisure and the Carlyle Rental Centre.

Round two of the SCRC series is a double-header in Estevan on July 24 and 25.听
