With three points nights left on Estevan Motor Speedway's 2010 schedule, the race is still on for at least nine drivers.While Aaron Turnbull extended his lead atop the IMCA modified standings, thanks to a second-place finish in Saturday's feature race, four other drivers remain in contention for the season championship.Jim Harris and Les McLenehan, in spite of their 10th-place and DNF results Saturday, remain third and fifth.Harris has 200 points and is 10 back of Turnbull while McLenehan has 194.Joren Boyce moved into second with 203 points on the strength of Saturday's sixth-place finish. And Tyson Turnbull is also within striking distance at 199 points.Tyson Turnbull finished third Saturday behind Aaron Turnbull and winner Kody Scholpp. Scholpp is sixth in the standings with 171 points but is a long shot to win the points title, with 39 points separating him from top spot.Over in the IMCA street stock division, Rocky Alexander closed the gap on points leader Nathan Burke with a win in Saturday's feature race. Alexander now has 220 points and trails Burke, who finished fifth, by 11.Also in the mix are perennial contender Kelly Henderson (214) and Joe Flory (213).Assuming Dana Brandt shows up for even two of the next three IMCA hobby stock races in Estevan, he is a lock to win his first points championship at EMS. Brandt has won all eight features this year and, with 320 points, leads second-place Austin Daae by 33.That, however, also means the target on Brandt's back gets a little bigger with each passing race. And if his competition cannot take away his impending track championship, they will surely be trying just that much harder to beat him even for just one night."We've had some really, really good racing," said Speedway president James Gustafson. "And for our specials we had really good turnouts. It seems like last race we were competing with several events, including the football game, so our attendance was a little lighter, but overall we're pleased."We've only got four races left and so we're starting to look at ways we can improve for next year of course there's nothing we can do about the weather, but we sure hated to cancel those races we did earlier in the year, but all in all we're OK. We're pleased with it."The Speedway's next scheduled event is the faster pastor event Aug. 7. All regular classes will run for points as well.
