Lampman Sports Weekend enjoyed by all

The community of Lampman along with the Lampman and District Lions Club hosted their annual Sports Weekend Friday, June 3, to Sunday, June 5. Slo pitch started off Friday night with 14 teams out of 20 having their first game.

All types of floats were entered into the parade on Saturday morning, which saw a total of 50 floats entered.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 The community of Lampman along with the Lampman and District Lions Club hosted their annual Sports Weekend Friday, June 3, to Sunday, June 5.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Slo pitch started off Friday night with 14 teams out of 20 having their first game. A total of seven games were held on Friday night, including one under the big lights, which Brittany Fox with Lampman Recreation said felt like watching the big leagues.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Gress Electric Beach volleyball ran that evening from 6p.m. to 9 p.m. A total of four teams took part in the tournament. A team from Carlyle took home the prize money.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The camp grounds were full and the food booth and beer gardens were open for the night.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The movie in the park, featuring The Good Dinosaur, set up by Woodley Well Services and TnT was well attended.聽 The playschool provided snacks throughout the evening, running a canteen at the movie. It was a hit amongst the young crowd.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 On Saturday, June 4, the local 4-H club cooked up breakfast in the curling rink, getting the day started off right, as slo pitch started up early with the remaining six teams having their first game.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Men鈥檚 hardball was also underway on June 4 with six teams attending.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e had our first parade since 2009, with over 50 floats. It was six blocks long!鈥 Fox explained. 鈥淲e had a car show to follow with 16 cars in total on display.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Kids鈥 Corner from 1p.m. to 5p.m. included bouncy castles brought in by Ron and Shirley Carson and a petting zoo brought in by Mel Grimes. The local library had a craft, temporary tattoo, and face painting station.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e had close to 200 kids bracelets sold this year!鈥 Fox exclaimed.聽鈥淭hat was four times more than last year, so it was great to see more families check out the event!鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淏all continued until 7 p.m. at which time the street dance was ready to go! It was a great night and the weather couldn't have been more perfect!鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Performing was Third Degree Birnz.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Waking up on Sunday, people enjoyed a breakfast hosted by the Knights of Columbus.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The Lutheran Church had a church service at the curling rink for those interested.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The A and B finals of slo pitch began in the morning with the A-side winner being Smack-a-Pitch and the B-side winner being Yank Deez.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 All teams playing in the beach volleyball and slo pitch tournaments had unique names to the games.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A small ladies softball round robin was hosted with Redvers, Estevan, and Oxbow each going home with one win and one loss.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Men's hardball finished up, which saw the Carlyle Cardinals taking the A-final and the Lampman Pirates taking the B-final.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Additionally, three teams of under 12 provincial girls took part in Sunday ball games as well.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭he weekend was a huge success and wouldn't have been possible without all the help of our so many generous volunteers and staff! And all those who attended the event!鈥 Fox exclaimed.
