The Carlyle Golf Club has held a Junior Tournament for at least a decade. This year's tournament was held on Aug. 15. Dedicated youth, 18-and-under, bundled up to partake in the day.

It was a cold, blustery day with drizzling rain sporadically coming down. Though the youth golfed nine holes without much more than a few complaints of cold hands. The tournament was supposed to be 18 holes, but with the weather bearing down on those entered, it was decided to only be nine holes long.

Between 10 and 10:30 a.m. youth registered at the Carlyle Golf Club with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. It was a two-person best ball format where participants either brought along a partner or were paired up upon arrival.

Despite the dreary day a total of 36 youth entered varying in ages from 8 to 17. They put in their best efforts to take home wins in their respective flights. Three flights were held: the 2nd flight, 1st flight, and championship flight.

In charge of the score cards before winners were determined was Gord Jarvis, who has been doing this for years now. As winners were determined the youth ate hamburgers, ice cream treats, and enjoyed pop provided by the Carlyle Golf Club. Prizes were then handed out to the players.

The 2nd Flight was won by Dawson Cutler and Jared Taylor, while the 1st Flight saw Jory Schwean and Jordan Bradley win. The Championship Flight went to Justin Wehrkamp and Anthony Wenner.

Though a tournament for fun, many youth are out on golf courses constantly throughout summer taking part in various events and tournaments. Enjoying the game and bettering oneself is important in golf, which is what these young competitors were a part of during the junior tournament.

This year the Jr. Captains were Austin Veysey, Kiri Biberdorf, and Kruz Wilson. They are responsible for organizing the tournament and finding sponsors to donate various prizes. These prizes are for door prizes and for those participating in each flight. With the help of Jackie Rutledge and Levi Lawrence the Jr. Captains were able to create a successful day in spite of the weather.
