Lots of people may love golf, but few can say they love it enough to play the game every single day. 聽
Keltin Slyhuis is one of those people. The 13-year-old and his friends have hit the greens at the Carlyle Golf Club nearly every day for the past few months and have no intention of stopping anytime soon.聽
Although his dad golfs occasionally, Slykhuis didn鈥檛 show a serious interest in the game until this year.聽
鈥淚 went a couple times last year, but I wasn't really into it then,鈥� Slykhuis said.聽
鈥淎ll my friends started to go, so I just figured I'd go with them and I started liking it,鈥� Slykhuis said, adding that there are about nine of them who meet up to go golfing on a regular basis.聽
Slykhuis has recently finished up Grade 8 at Gordon F. Kells High School. He said that the COVID-19 pandemic brought extra challenges to the school year.聽
鈥淚t is a bit harder and (it) sucks to wear your mask all the time.鈥澛�
Golf has been a way for Slykhuis and his friends to spend time together when they otherwise may not have been able to because of COVID-19 gathering restrictions. 聽
Slykhuis plays the majority of his games at the Carlyle Golf Club, but said he would also like to give Golf Kenosee a try some day.聽
When he鈥檚 not on the golf course, Slykhuis can be found on the ice playing bantam hockey for the Carlyle Cougars.聽
While he likes improving his skills and competing against his friends, the thing Slykhuis loves the most about golf is simply the game itself.聽
