Hole in One

Jesse McAuley may have only been golfing regularly for two years, but he鈥檚 already done something many players spend their entire careers trying to achieve: a hole in one.

McAuley made the once-in-a-lifetime shot at hole No. 3 while playing a round with friends at the Carlyle Golf Club on June 4. He made the shot using a three-iron hybrid golf club.

鈥淣ever did I think I would ever get a hole in one and in my golf career, that's for sure. It was crazy. (It) still really hasn't even seemed to sink in,鈥 McAuley said.

The 33-year-old Carlyle resident describes himself as a 鈥渞ecreational鈥 golfer who did not start playing the game regularly until about two years ago.

鈥淚t's quite an accomplishment for me just because like I said, I wouldn't 鈥 fancy myself 鈥 a聽 high, high level golfer by no means,鈥 McAuley said. 鈥淚 don't have big expensive clubs or (anything) like that.鈥

Golf is something that McAuley has gotten more interested in since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic last year.聽

鈥淲ith COVID and everything, work had become pretty slow for us and so it was just something that me and my wife (do),鈥 McAuley said.

For McAuley, golfing is a family affair. He regularly plays with his wife and his young son has recently started to pick up the game as well.

鈥淲e just kind of use it as a family time and (as) something to kill the time (and to) get out in the nice weather.鈥澛
