It pays to golf local

Taylor Baldwin is from Alameda and he plays most of his golf at the Moose Creek Course in Moose Creek Regional Park, just a short drive east of his hometown. Baldwin began golfing very young and was encouraged to take up the game by his father. His first memories of the game were hitting balls at the local schoolyard in Alameda at around seven years of age.

The first time being on a golf course was in Oxbow at the Oxbow Golf Course. The nine-hole sand green course was one of the oldest clubs in the province before it was closed.

Baldwin golfs quite regularly and will golf close to 50 rounds this year by freeze up at the course. He was handed some prize winnings from last week’s men’s night while doing this interview.

Baldwin plays several local courses in the area, including White Bear, Kenosee Lake, Carnduff and TS&M Woodlawn in Estevan. He has played Dakota Dunes in Saskatoon, the Souris Valley Country Club in Minot, which is a private club that allows Canadians access to play, and has teed it up at the TPC in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Baldwin if had the choice of any golf course to play, he would choose a round at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Verda Beach, Fla., as his destination.

Baldwin’s best 18-hole total came at the Carnduff Golf Course, carding a 74, making the trip around the nine-hole course twice that day. He has yet to have a hole in one, coming inside of 10 inches of enjoying the feat.

His favourite hole is the par 5, third hole at Moose Creek, where he can load it up and send a bomb off the tee. Baldwin chooses Cobra Drivers, uses Nike irons and a Nike putter, and favours the popular ProV 1 ball.

Baldwin recommends that an avid player should hit the links at White Bear for a challenging round that will test the skills of any golfer.
