With warm weather having finally arrived the golf courses have opened and have begun to see a number of golfers flocking to the greens.

Golf Kenosee recently saw 45 youth attend a tournament hosted by Arcola School on Wednesday, June 4. Tournament organizer, Laurie James, explained that high school golf sees students able to attend three tournaments in the fall and three in the spring.

Often Golf Kenosee is the site of districts, but this tournament was formed after Arcola School discovered they only had two to participate in.

After deciding to host their own, interest from the area sparked and students from Arcola, Carlyle, Manor, Stoughton, Wawota, Kipling, Weyburn, and Estevan attended.

In the senior category 25 golfers had registered, while the junior category had a total of 17 youth. In addition to this there were three female golfers also taking part in the day.

Though a light rain began in the morning it slowly cleared and became a good day for golfing.

In the end Walker Hengen of Arcola took first in the senior category with a score of 77, while second place went to Eric McKersie of Estevan, and third went to Carson Harcourt of Kipling.

Mason Scott of Oxbow earned first place in the junior category with 78. This was followed by Brayden Paschal of Estevan followed by Kruz Wilson of Manor.

Estevan female participant Kailey McClellan would go on to win her category with a score of 86. McClellan was followed closely by Mackenzie Fleck of Lampman and, in third, Zoe Wagner of Estevan.

The day also saw fun prizes given out for longest drive won by Taylor Hengen, closest to the pin was Justin James, while the longest putt went to Blake Dempsey.

Organizer James was happy with how it turned out: "I hope the kids have fun, maybe meet new friends, and learn a little more about the game of golf. Mainly though it's about having fun and this is a beautiful course for it."
