On July 19 and July 22, the senior men from Golf Kenosee and White Bear Lake Golf Course took part in some friendly competition during the annual Senior Men’s Ryder Cup.

The Senior Men’s Ryder Cup, which has been going on for the past three years, is a showdown which takes place at both Golf Kenosee and the White Bear golf course. This year the competition started out on July 19 with people playing best ball matches at Kenosee in teams. On July 22, the competition continued as a team from each golf course—made up of 12 players each—played against each other in singles matches between the players.

In the end, it was Kenosee’s team which won the cup this year.

Overall, the competition was a success, with the end goal being that the senior men from both clubs had fun and practised some golf.

Brent Lothian, one of the managers at Golf Kenosee, explained that the Senior Men’s Ryder Cup was designed a few years back so that there could be an opportunity for the older men to also participate in a competition and be able to enjoy the friendly rivalry between the two golf clubs.

“We’ve always had a Ryder Cup between Kenosee and White Bear … when I first started working here four years ago, one of the guys — one of the senior guys — said, ‘Why don’t we do this for the senior men as well?’ So then … we organized one for the senior men. It’s supposed to be a little more fun, less serious. But … of course they still all want to win.”

The competition was different from other ones — mainly because it does not involve individual stroke play — but most importantly, it was supposed to focus more on enjoyment for the men and less on the competition itself, which is exactly what took place.

Gord Petker, the general manager at White Bear Lake Golf Course explained, “It went really good. I think everybody had lots of fun. That’s what it was designed for … when we started it. It’s just about the guys getting together and having some fun.”
