Brent Gedak has booked his ticket back to the SaskTel Provincial Men's Curling Championships. The Estevan resident and his rink consisting of John Aston, Derek Owens and Malcolm Vanstone were one of five qualifiers to come out of the 16-team field at the SaskTel Â鶹ÊÓƵern men's playdowns in Weyburn last weekend.

The Gedak rink went 5-2 at the southerns, defeating Max Kirkpatrick of Swift Current 8-2 in the C-event final. Team Gedak got off to a slow start, dropping two of their first three games, before winning the rest of their matchups to claim the C-event.

Gedak told the Mercury it feels good to get back to the provincials after missing out last year, and that he doesn't care how he gets there, as long as he qualifies.

"It doesn't matter at all," he said. "It's just a qualifying process and A-event, C-event it doesn't matter, you just kind of struggle your way through and as long as you qualify, that's all that matters."

Having won four straight games to finish the playdowns, Gedak said he and his team got into a bit of a groove that helped them along.

"It's nice to get on a winning streak like that," he said. "Every time you take a loss, it knocks the wind out of you a little and sets your confidence back."

The provincials are in North Battleford this year and get underway February 6.
