On Sunday, March 16, the rink in Carlyle was filled with people watching the Carlyle Skating Club's annual ice show.
From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. youth took to the ice where they showcased their great skill and commitment to the art of skating. From beautiful interpretive programs to cute young skaters zipping around the ice, the day was a fun way to celebrate the end of the season before spring school begins.
With a theme this year of "Fun in the Sun," the ice was polished to perfection after a sun was made out of paper to be encased within the ice. It was a fun way to make the Carlyle Sports Arena all about the ice show for the day.
Simone Boutin opened the ceremonies with a beautiful rendition of O Canada. Solo skates by Tiana Delalleau and Tyra Newell followed, while Brittany Rowe then took to the ice for an interpretive dance.
Alyssa Bee, Kyra Cochrane, Danielle Garcia, Karsyn Gervais, Gaige Laiss, and MacKenna Slykhuis brought the fun with a choreographed piece to "Soak up the Sun" with help from program assistants MacKenzie Valentine, Brooklyn Zacharias, and Ashley Foster.
Payton Spry delivered a moving interpretive performance, which was followed by Alyssa Panteluk's solo performance showcasing her abilities.
Sean French, Katelyn Rutten, and Kaylee Valentine then performed to "Cruel Summer." With French dressed as a shark the program saw smiles cross the skaters faces as the two beach goers were chased by the shark. Missing from the skate was Mason Barta.
Jessica Moffat, MacKenzie Valentine, and Halle Doty then performed solo programs. Much effort and lots of training was evident in their programs and the crowd cheered loudly following each one's time on the ice.
Anna Doty, Kyla Fischer, and Katie Rowley then performed to "All Summer Long." Missing from the program was Ashley Devins.
Following the intermission Jessica Szacaks a skater from Kipling who trains out of Carlyle performed, which was then followed by a StarSkate performance by Ashley Foster, Jessica Moffat, Tyra Newell, Payton Spry, and Tarris Valentine.
Anna Doty then performed a unique interpretive dance as she took on the character of a mime, at one point even busting out of the invisible box she was trapped in.
Katie Rowley followed this with an interpretive dance to the Inspector Gadget theme song.
Ciara Corrigan, Tiana Delalleau, Victoria Flynn, Zadie Gervais, Nicole Lamb, and Halle Schutz performed to "Fishing in the Dark" complete with fishing rods and tackle boxes.
Ashley Foster was then joined by Halle Doty to perform the Fiesta Dance.
This was followed by an adorable performance by Kacey Fleming, Italy Garcia, Rommy Garcia, Kayden Holonics, Mason Hunt, Avery Stigings, Tori Wilson, and Ari Morse who skated to "Surfin' USA."
Tarris Valentine and Kyla Fischer were then able to showcase their solo talents before Halle Doty, Brittany Rowe, Jessica Szacaks, and Mackenzie Valentine performed to "California Girls." Missing from this program was local talent Grace Smyth.
Overall the carnival was a great success with youth able to showcase what they have been working hard on all year. Family, friends, and community members were happy to support the young skaters who owed much of their success to the skating coach Dawn Dyer who gives countless hours to the youth helping prepare them for competition and in growing the youth's skills.
Also given out during the ice skating carnival were various awards celebrating many involved with the figure skating club.
CanSkater of the Year went to Tiana Delalleau; CanSkate Champions were awarded to Avery Stingings and Sean French; StarSkater of the Year was presented to Payton Spry; Program Assistant of the Year was given to Halle Doty; the SaskEnergy Rising Star Award was presented to Halle Schutz; SaskEnergy Champion volunteer Award went to Karen Fischer for all of her efforts; and the Excellence in Artistry Award was presented to Katie Rowley.
