ESTEVAN - A former member of the Estevan Bruins, whose son is currently on the team, has earned a significant hockey honour.

Scott Burfoot will be inducted into the ECHL Hall of Fame, the professional hockey league announced on Tuesday.

Burfoot, who hails from Winnipeg, played for the Bruins in 1986-87 and 1987-88. In the latter campaign, he scored 56 goals and tallied 131 points.

After playing for the Bruins, he spent four seasons with the Mercyhurst College Lakers in the NCAA, where he put up 289 points in 113 games over four seasons.

He then ventured to the ECHL, where he suited up in 298 career games over five seasons with four different teams. He was named to four all-star games, which is tied for the third most in league history, while posting 427 points, for a 1.43 points-per-game clip, which ranks sixth all-time for the league.

He also played in the Colonial Hockey League/United Hockey League.

The induction ceremony will occur in January 2024 as part of the ECHL's all-star festivities.

His son Zach is currently in his second stint with the Bruins. He played for Estevan in 2021-22 and helped the Bruins win the SJHL title in 2022. After spending time in the North American Hockey League for nearly 1 1/2 seasons, Zach Burfoot rejoined the Bruins earlier this season and has four goals and eight points in six games in his final season of junior hockey.
