Double-team defence and more dirty play than a provincial election haven't done much to stop Cole Fonstad in the past, so why would a broken limb?Playing with a soft cast to protect a recent fracture in his left arm, the Estevan product joined Team Saskatchewan as scheduled earlier this month for the Brick Invitational Super Novice Hockey Tournament in Edmonton.All he did there was lead his team in round-robin scoring with five goals and two assists for seven points.Fonstad added an assist in a 4-0 semi-final win over the Vancouver Vipers as Saskatchewan advanced to its first-ever championship game at the tournament, which ran June 30-July 4.Saskatchewan lost its first two games of the tournament, 1-0 to the California 2000s and 6-4 to Toronto Pro Hockey.That put Fonstad's team in a win-or-go-home predicament and they rose to the occasion with three straight wins to make the playoffs.Saskatchewan beat the Winnipeg Junior Jets 2-1, the Toronto Bulldogs 6-2, and the Montreal Ice Dogs 4-3 to set up the semifinal with Vancouver.Fonstad has always been happy to let his play do the talking for him and the game against the Bulldogs, in particular, was no exception.Fonstad scored a hat trick, including the game-winning goal, and was named the game's first star.He said it was hard work that allowed his team to claw back against some "really fast" opponents.Saskatchewan came up against Toronto Pro Hockey again in the final, losing 7-1.
