ESTEVAN - Amanda Minchin has added to the list of accolades she has received from the PGA of Saskatchewan.
Minchin was presented with the Graham Coulter Trophy as the provincial PGA's Professional of the Year on Oct. 30. The award is nominated and voted on by her peers.
Minchin said it was nice to be nominated, and she was "shocked" when her name was announced. It was humbling to win the recognition.
"When I went through the nomination, there were some quotes from the staff," said Minchin. "Anytime you're nominated by your peers and your staff, you must be heading in the right direction."
She said she is only as good as the other people she works with at Woodlawn, so an award for Professional of the Year could also be described as "Professional Team of the Year".
"I've got great people around me, so that makes a big difference."
A nomination for Minchin notes she has worked in every department of the golf course since her days as a junior golfer. She continues to educate herself in the business of golf and continually learns about the food and beverage and turf management areas.
She strives to deliver top products, service and programs for her members and guests. Minchin manages a successful golf shop and makes time for the busy junior golf program.
"Amanda is the definition of a golf professional. She is always doing what she can to grow the game, generate revenue for her club and create a positive golf club for the community of Estevan. She works hard and has a true passion for the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club."
Minchin is an avid supporter of the PGA of Saskatchewan and is a believer in helping out fellow professionals, the nomination stated. She seeks out advice from fellow pros and has used social media in a professional and positive manner to grow the sport.
"Amanda is known to share advice and support her students in working with as many qualified professionals as required."
She is respected by her staff members and the entire management team in Estevan. Her leadership style follows the team aspect, and she heads into every day with the belief that she can learn from her staff and team members, just as they learn from her.
"Amanda makes sure to thank her staff and Golf Shop Team every chance she can."
She has shown great leadership qualities by always helping out in other departments of the club, the nomination said. She has been known to help out the food and beverage staff or to cut grass on greens.
This is the first time she has won the Coulter Award, but she has previously won the Assistant Professional of the Year Award in 2012, the Junior Promoter of the Year Award in 2013 and 2016, and the Teacher of the Year Award in 2015.
"Woodlawn is so lucky to have someone like Amanda who gives so much of her time and heart to the staff, members and guests," the golf course said in a post on its Facebook page. "She's the most selfless person who goes above and beyond in everything she does. We're so proud.
"From the entire Estevan golf community: congratulations and thank you for everything, Amanda."
The award is named after Coulter, a long-time PGA of Saskatchewan and Canada member.
