ESTEVAN - For second time in a week, a four-goal second period propelled the Estevan Bruins to a win over the Weyburn Red Wings.

The Bruins notched four goals in the middle frame Friday night in a 5-1 victory over Weyburn.

Back on Oct. 2, Estevan had a four-goal first period in a 6-3 win over Weyburn.

Braden Birnie scored at the 9:02 mark of the first period to give Weyburn a 1-0 lead. Birnie’s goal came moments after a Bruin goal was disallowed.

Estevan took over in the second. Olivier Pouliot scored his first as a Bruin 1:42 into the frame to tie the game. Then Alex Von Sprecken scored on a power play less than five minutes later for a 2-1 Bruin lead.

Goals by Keagon Little and Griffin Asham-Moroz 89 seconds apart late in the period left Estevan up by three.

Asham-Moroz scored on a power play with nine minutes left in the game to finish the scoring.

Estevan had all six power plays in the game.

The Bruins didn’t register their first shot on goal until midway through the first period, but then took over from there, holding a 42-22 edge by the end of the night.

Boston Bilous made 21 saves for Estevan, while Joseph Young had 37 saves for Weyburn.

Weyburn’s next game is Oct. 12 against the Melville Millionaires, while the Bruins next game is October 15 at home against the Melfort Mustangs.
