The Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs senior girls' basketball team was in action at a tournament in Indian Head over the weekend. Due to injuries and personal reasons, the Elecs only had seven players, but still managed to play competitive basketball.

ECS lost their first game to Melville 60-46, and according to coach Jessie Elias, the girls came out flat at the beginning of the game and just couldn't get a lead. During the third quarter, they had a big lapse and we were down by as many as 20 points. While they were able to gain some ground in the fourth, they still ended up losing by 14. Elias said her team was really tired, and just couldn't finish their little shots, and that was the difference.

The Elecs played much better on Saturday, winning both of their games, and Elias said everyone contributed in both contests, which was great to see.

In their first game of the day, Estevan downed Assiniboia 51-28. Larissa Smeltzer led the team with 12 points and 10 defensive rebounds, while Kelci Little had six points and eight rebounds.

The win over Assiniboia vaulted ECS into the B-side championship game where they met Wynyard. According to Elias, the Elecs picked up their play when they started putting on more defensive pressure. They were able to get by Wynyard 56-31 and claim the B-side title. In that final contest, Christa Clearwater had 18 points, five assists and six offensive rebounds to help her team to victory.
