ESTEVAN - Drew Fenwick saved his best for last at the Estevan Oilfield Technical Society Oilmen’s Golf Tournament, held from Friday to Sunday at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course.

Fenwick fired a 3-under-par 68 to win the tournament’s 36-hole championship flight by five strokes over Mark Spencer. Fenwick put an exclamation mark on the victory by sinking a long, winding putt for birdie on the par-5 18th hole.

Multi-time former champion Scott Dutton was third with a 74 and Mike Ross was fourth with a 75.

In the 36-hole portion of the competition, golfers play 18 holes on Friday or Saturday to determine their flight. Then they play another 18 holes on Sunday, with the score on Saturday determining the champion.

In Fenwick’s case, he shot a 78 on Saturday to qualify for the championship flight. He shaved 10 strokes from his score in the first round even though the winds kicked up on Sunday, making the course tougher to play.

The winner of the 36-hole tournament has to come from the championship flight.

There was also an 18-hole tournament, with golfers playing either Friday or Saturday. Clark Driedger won with a 70 to win the 18-hole championship flight, two better than Lyle Odgers and four ahead of Blaine Kovach and Warren Waldegger.

More than 200 golfers entered this year’s competition.

A steak supper was served to the tournament’s participants Saturday night at the Power Dodge Curling Centre.
