For the first time in 37 years a Moose Jaw rink will represent Saskatchewan at the Canadian Senior Women's Curling Championship at the end of March in Yellowknife, NWT.
The feat took place on Sunday, Feb. 23, during the 2014 Affinity Credit Union Senior Provincial Final between Lorraine Arguin's rink and Darlene Gillies, with Arguin earning five and Gillies earning three.
Earning their way to Yellowknife with Arguin includes a local connection. Donda Lee Deis, daughter of Glen and Marie McConnell, who plays third with Arguin will be competing. Their team is rounded out by Connie Fritzler and Shelly Urquhart.
Arguin explained to Discover Moose Jaw: "This is my first time winning a green jacket [senior provincial title], for all of us on the team it is."
"It's a bit surreal at the moment, we had a hard time digesting what it all meant, but it was really exciting though to have a win."
Now having qualified, Arguin also explained that there is much work to do.
"There's lots of little details to look after when you're getting ready to go to Nationals, so we're trying to get as many of those things done right now and planning to have a few practice games before we go and hopefully do well when we get there," she told Discover Moose Jaw.
If the women are able to reach success then they will earn the honour of competing at the World Senior Competition in Dumfries, Scotland in April.
