Cougars reaching final stretch of regular season

The Carlyle PureChem Cougars came up against the Wawota Flyers and the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings last week. Coming up they host three home games starting with a game versus the Bienfait Coalers on Sunday, Jan. 21, followed by one on Tuesday, Jan.

                  The Carlyle PureChem Cougars came up against the Wawota Flyers and the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings last week. Coming up they host three home games starting with a game versus the Bienfait Coalers on Sunday, Jan. 21, followed by one on Tuesday, Jan. 30, against the Redvers Rockets, and finally against the Arcola/Kisbey Combines on Friday, Feb. 2.

                  The PureChem Cougars battled in Wawota, but came up short on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Wawota earned a 5-2 win over Carlyle. Carlyle goals came from Brett Turgeon assisted by Cooper Fox in the first, while Clayton Geiger earned a goal in the second off an assist by Billy Greenwood.

                  The Flyers played strong through the three periods with Devin Stewart earning a goal, Justin Lamontagne scoring a hat trick, and Kayle Swanson lighting it up.

                  Competition in Yellow Grass saw the PureChem Cougars take off to a slow start with the Wheat Kings controlling the first period on Saturday, Jan. 13. They rallied together and went hard in the second and third periods. Cooper Fox earned the first goal of the night for the PureChem Cougars, while Branden Lequyer found the net off an assist from Ty Currie and Clayton Geiger.

                  Out of the second period the Wheat Kings led 4-2. Heading into the third the Wheat Kings took control early, but the PureChem Cougars battled to the end with two goals by Brett Turgeon: one unassisted and the other with help from Mark Shaw and Sam Matthewson.

                  Standings thus far have the Carnduff Red Devils with the lead and 29 points; the Wawota Flyers follow with 26 points; the Redvers Rockets have 24 points; the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings have 22 points; the Bienfait Coalers currently hold 20 points; the Midale Mustangs sit with 18 points; the Carlyle PureChem Cougars have 3 points; and the Arcola Combines currently have 2 points.

                  Taysen Holt (Oxbow) – 42 points; Kerek Cooney (Oxbow) – 41 points; Matt Audette (Carnduff) – 37 points; Devin Cobbold (Yellow Grass) – 33 points; Payden Benning (Bienfait) – 28 points; Brandon Trask (Carnduff), Jordon Miller (Redvers), and Drew Hoff (Redvers) – 27 points; Wyatt Garagan (Bienfait), Corey Koski (Yellow Grass), and Dakota Rose (Redvers) – 26 points.

Big Six Top Goalies

                  Cody Dumaine (Carnduff) – 2.74 GAA; Scott Knelsen (Wawota) – 2.82 GAA; and Guillaume Blouin (Wawota) – 3.01.
