The Carlyle PureChem Cougars were battling the Redvers Rockets in the first round of Big Six League Playoffs.
               They first met on Wednesday, Feb. 8, where the Rockets came out to a 7-1 lead. Heading into the second game on Tuesday, Feb. 14, the Rockets won their second in the best of five series with a score of 3-1.
               The Rockets scored two in the first period: Jordon Miller earned the first assisted by Drew Hoff and Kevin Mann, and the second was scored by Mann assisted by Koltyn Miller and Travis Poirier.
               No one scored in the second with both teams looking strong.
               Late in the third, the Cougars looked like they might put on a last minute rush with Branden Lequyer finding the back of the net assisted by Cooper Fox and Phil Doucet. However, Redvers answered back with a goal by Drew Hoff assisted by Ryan Yates.
               Heading into Game 3 of the series the Rockets were looking strong, but the Cougars came out with nothing to lose and scored two goals early in the first: Jesse Matthewson earned an unassisted goal, while Billy Greenwood scored off an assist by Brent McLean.
               Redvers answered with a goal late in the first by Braden Liboiron assisted by Remi Lamotte and Kelsey Kenler.
               The second period the Rockets tied the game with Lamotte earning a goal off an assist by Craig Gaudet.
               Heading into the third the Cougars played strong defence and Jordan Fox assisted his brother Cooper in a rush down the ice, which ended in a goal for the Cougars. The game ended 3-2 in favour of the Cougars and extended the playoff round to Game 4 of the series, which was held in Carlyle on Sunday, Feb. 19.
               The Cougars came out strong in the fourth game of the series, with fans hopeful after the first two periods where the Cougars took control scoring two in the first and two in the second.
               Goals were by Mark Shaw assisted by Kelly Currie and Phil Doucet, then Brent McLean earned an unassisted goal against Redvers. Redvers retaliated with one by Drew Hoff assisted by Jordon Miller.
               In the second Cooper Fox with the Cougars earned a goal with assists from Ben Johnstone and Brent McLean. Redvers scored one to keep themselves in it by Remi Lamotte assisted by Gavin Martel. The Cougars took the lead to two, however, with a goal by Brent McLean assisted by Kelly Currie.
               Leading 4-2 in the third period, Redvers stepped up to control the final minutes of the game scoring two goals: Kelsey Kenler earned an unassisted goal, while Ryan Yates found the net with an assist by Craig Gaudet.
               Headed into overtime, Redvers continued to control the action with Drew Hoff capitalizing on an opportunity and finding a way to get the puck past Cougars goalie Josh Hohn for the win.
               Within the first round of playoffs Bienfait swept Oxbow in three, Wawota took Midale in three, and so did Yellow Grass over Carnduff. The Cougars took one game off of Redvers for a 3-1 record in their series.
               Bienfait will now take on Yellow Grass, while Redvers will take on Wawota in further Big Six action.
