The Carlyle PureChem Cougars returned to the rink with authority on Friday, Nov. 3, with a 6-0 win over the Arcola-Kisbey Combines.
With an estimated 740 people in attendance the PureChem Cougars efforts to bring in as many people as possible to not only enjoy the game, but support the Carlyle and Area KidSport was very successful. The guaranteed $5,000 50/50 ensured the winner of the 50/50, Karley Hislop, and KidSport would receive $5,000 each. Hislop decided to give back $1,000 of the $5,000 she won to KidSport as well on behalf of the Arcola-Kisbey Combines.
Dallas Lequyer, president of the PureChem Cougars said, "Because of the tremendous support we receive from our fans and the business community, our hockey team is in the position of being able to give back to the community."
"Right now, our choice is to help our local KidSport organization," added Lequyer. "We feel as a hockey team that there is no better thing to do than help kids from our area play a sport of their choice. And we'd like to thank our 50/50 winner Karley Hislop from Arcola who was so generous in donating $1,000 to KidSport on behalf of the Arcola Combines."
KidSport's Shelley Sargent said donations from the event have now enabled the charity to fulfill outstanding requests from throughout the local area to assist families financially, so their children can participate in sports.
"On behalf of Carlyle KidSport, I would like to thank everyone for coming out tonight to support your PureChem Cougars and Carlyle & District KidSport," Sargent told the crowd.
"Over the years, Carlyle KidSport has supported kids from Carlyle, Manor, Arcola and White Bear by paying their registration fees to take part in activities such as hockey, figure skating, gymnastics and karate."
"We are a volunteer organization," explained Sargent. "We would not be able to support the number of families that we do without community support and partnerships, such as the one we have formed with the PureChem Cougars."
"It is great to see that the PureChem Cougar hockey team's players and staff are willing to give back to the community. I'd like to extend a huge thank you to the PureChem Cougars for all of their support tonight and I look forward to our continued partnership."
"I would also like to thank Karley Hislop of Arcola who has donated $1,000 to KidSport on behalf of the Arcola Combines."
"KidSport is grateful for all of the generous support we've received tonight. Thank you."
