On January 16th, the Cougars travelled to Oxbow for a regular league game. Since this was a late game our Cougars got off to a slow start with the Oxbow Huskies taking a lead on the Carlyle Cougars in the first period. Ty Ferhenbach never missed a beat during the first period, every time he was on the ice he was skating a hundred miles an hour. Kale Arndt started the Cougars off with the first goal of the game. Grady Benjamin wasted no time when the puck crossed the blue line to take possession and fire it up the ice to one of his team mates. Going into the second period Mitch Himmelspach kept his team in the game making save after save and Jakson Humphries rushed the puck up the ice putting the pressure on the Oxbow Huskies. Samantha Colpitts and Everett Brown on defense remembered what they learned in practice, passing the puck up the ice and keeping it out of our end would make it hard for the Huskies to get the puck out of the corner and passed it out in front of the net. Chase Robertson broke out of our end making his way down the ice to the Huskies net where he managed to bury the puck in their net putting us closer to a tie. Going into the third period Tyrell Dixon came out of the player's box with great determination and it payed off when he scored three times back to back making it a tie game. Alexander Bradley and Darcie Rae kept it a tie for most of the third period holding the blue line like a pair of pros. The fans were on the edge of their seats, no one knew what the outcome would be, at this point it was anybody's game and the Huskies weren't slowing down. Daine Thomas put his fans at ease when he shot the puck top shelf putting the Cougars in the lead and making it a hat trick for himself. Great team work Cougars.

Carlyle Minor Hockey Day

The Carlyle Cougars go head to head with Estevan on Carlyle Minor Hockey Day. The puck dropped at 11:00 with Chase Robertson winning the face offs with his quick thinking and even quicker hands. Right off the start Estevan was strong, putting pressure on the Cougars and Ty Ferhenbach had no time to rest as he blocked the puck with first his glove and then his pads. Darcy Rae knew it was her job to protect her net and that's exactly what she did when she was on the ice. Tyrell Dixon is always where the puck is when he's on the ice which made it tough for Estevan to set up any goals on our net. When Kale Arndt is winning the battles along the boards you know the next thing he is going to do is pass the puck right out in front of the net to Jakson Humphries who is always right in position to put the puck in the net. The hard work at practice this week paid off for Max Waugh and Blake Robertson with their tireless skating and accurate hard passing. With the clock ticking away, Samantha Colpitts and Alexander Bradley keep the puck in Estevan's end, helping the Cougars get the puck to their net. Gaining speed with every game he plays, Everett Brown races for the puck just in time to pass it across the ice to his team mate. Having yet another great game, Daine Thomas dominates his side of the ice with his ability to take the puck away from the other team. Mitch Himmelspach and Mason Barta always play smart when they are on the ice which makes it tough for the opposing team to take possession of the puck. The Carlyle Cougars skated hard and made some great saves but Estevan took this game for a win.

The Cougars Face Off Against the Arcola/Kisbey Combines

Being the third game of the week there were no signs of being tired for these Cougars. Starting off the first period, Arcola takes the lead. The Cougars quickly made a comeback with Samantha Colpitts and Ty Ferhenbach angling off the Combines every time they came towards our net. Tyrell Dixon on center gave the Cougars possession of the puck as he won the face offs. Never missing a beat, Kale Arndt received a pat on the head from his coaches as he came into the player's box after a great shift. It sure showed that Mason Barta and Mitch Himmelspach have been doing some extra practicing as they clear the puck away from our net making the Combines race back to their end for the puck. Alexander Bradley makes himself comfortable in net as we go into the second period with a tight game due to his awesome saves. Shift after shift Max Waugh constantly won the battles along the boards, and chased the puck up the ice. Daine Thomas, still on fire looks for his team mate as he rushes the puck up the ice and makes a nice pass. Blake Robertson always giving 110% when he's on the ice passes the puck across the ice to Everett Brown who skillfully keeps the puck away from the Combines. Going into the third period, the Cougars had a nice lead but the Combines must have got their second wind as they began to gain on us. Remembering everything they learned in practice. Jakson Humphries covered his side of the ice with speed and accuracy. Chase Robertson took the puck off their sticks every time he was on the ice helping his team to stay in the lead. With this team working as hard as they were and Darcy Rae being the solid defenses that she is the Cougars won the game against the Combines 16-12. The Cougars play in Lampman on Thursday for another league game.
