College hosts Swing for Scholarships tournament

Â鶹ÊÓƵeast Regional College will be hosting its 12th annual Swing for Scholarships golf tournament on Friday, September 17 at the Weyburn Golf Club.

Â鶹ÊÓƵeast Regional College will be hosting its 12th annual Swing for Scholarships golf tournament on Friday, September 17 at the Weyburn Golf Club. Each year this event raises funds for the College's Centennial Merit Scholarship program, which provides valuable scholarships to full?time students attending Â鶹ÊÓƵeast Regional College.

Craig Brown, President and CEO of Â鶹ÊÓƵeast Regional College, is extremely pleased with the increasing amount of support the tournament receives each year.

"This golf tournament is one of our major fundraisers and we are very grateful to all the participants and sponsors who support the College and our students. Our scholarships provide the financial means for many of our students to pursue postsecondary training in southeast Saskatchewan," said Brown.

The Swing for Scholarships Centennial Merit Scholarships are administered on behalf of the College by the Â鶹ÊÓƵeast Education Foundation. Executive Director of the Foundation, Ian MacLennan, works to build on the number of scholarships and bursaries available to students, and promotes the importance of local education and training to potential donors. As a result, the total amount of College scholarships and bursaries awarded to students has grown to $40,000 annually.

MacLennan emphasized that the Centennial Merit Scholarships help leverage funding from the Government of Saskatchewan to assist Â鶹ÊÓƵeast Regional College students.

"The Centennial Merit Scholarship Program matches funds that are raised through local events," added MacLennan, "and because of this matching program, our Swing for Scholarships golf tournament becomes an event that many students can benefit from."

The Swing for Scholarships golf tournament includes 18 holes of Texas Scramble golf, power cart, steak supper, and incredible prizes. The registration fee is $75 per golfer and the tournament will commence with a shot?gun start at 1:30 p.m.
