A Carlyle sports organization has won a prestigious honour.

Living Sky Sports and Entertainment Inc. (LSSE) and the Saskatchewan Soccer Association (SSA) announced that the Moose Mountain Soccer Club (MMSC) in Carlyle was the winner of $5,000 towards facility upgrades and equipment and the title of Soccer Town Saskatchewan. The two runners-up were Saskatoon Youth Soccer Inc. and the Weyburn Soccer Association.

Each runner-up will receive $250.

SSA member organizations and clubs from across the province were asked to demonstrate their support for LSSE鈥檚 pursuit to bring a Canadian Premier League (CPL) team to Saskatchewan through short video clips that were posted on both the SSA鈥檚 and LSSE鈥檚 social media channels throughout the month of June.

A press release for the contest shows the videos clearly demonstrated the province鈥檚 love of the game, the growing excitement for a CPL soccer team coming to Saskatchewan, and the soccer community鈥檚 support for a soccer specific stadium to be built in Saskatoon.

Fifteen organizations from across the province entered the contest including: Kelliher Minor Soccer, Meadow Lake Youth Soccer, Meridian Soccer (Lloydminster), Moose Mountain Soccer Club, Nipawin Youth Soccer, Prince Albert Youth Soccer Association, Queen City United Soccer (Regina), Saskatoon Adult Soccer Inc., Saskatoon Youth Soccer Inc., Swift Current Soccer Association, TD Soccer (Saskatoon), Watrous and District Soccer, Watson Minor Sports, Weyburn Soccer Association and Wynyard Soccer Club.

鈥淢oose Mountain Soccer Club was thrilled to hear that Carlyle had been crowned 鈥楽occer Town Saskatchewan鈥 for 2021. We look forward to using the prize money to upgrade our facilities and continue to grow the beautiful game in the southeast. MMSC believes that a CPL team in Saskatoon would be spectacular for the people of this fine province, and we fully support the construction of a stadium to facilitate such a dream," said Scott Kirkness, MMSC media co-ordinator.

鈥淟iving Sky Sports and Entertainment is proud to have sponsored Soccer Town Saskatchewan. The level of participation and support for a new soccer stadium in Saskatoon by soccer clubs throughout the province is tremendous, as evidenced by the quality and passion of the video submissions,鈥 said LSSE founder Alan Simpson.

Simpson added, 鈥淎 big thank you to all participants. Well-done to the runner-ups and of course, congratulations Moose Mountain Soccer Club out of Carlyle as Soccer Town Saskatchewan 2021.鈥

鈥淪askatchewan Soccer Association is extremely happy with the success of the first Soccer Town Saskatchewan campaign. It is clear that there is a passion for the game in Saskatchewan and that a Canadian Premier League team will be very well supported. We can鈥檛 wait to build on this momentum, and we look forward to what is yet to come for the beautiful game in our province,鈥 said Doug Pederson, executive director of the Saskatchewan Soccer Association.

Congratulations Moose Mountain Soccer Club, and the runners-up and all the membership on their outstanding submissions.
