The Pee Wee Cougars kicked off their second round best of three series against the Carnduff Red Devils, with game one in Carnduff on March 8th.  Both teams hit the ice with determination, fighting for that all important first tally.  Carnduff grabbed the edge with the opening goal at the 12 minute mark and came on strong, adding three more unanswered goals. The Cougars were able to notch one of their own with just under a minute left to play, giving Carnduff a devilish 4-1 lead after the first.  The second period was a monstrous display of end to end action in the blue paint, with goaltenders from either side fiendishly flashing leather. Each team found the net just once, leaving the Red Devils up by three after period two. Carlyle came out with ice water in their veins for the third, trying to douse the fiery Red Devils. The young Cats threw everything they had at the regular season champs, closing the gap to one by the seven minute mark of the third. The onslaught kept coming but puck luck was not on their side as they hit two posts late in the game, neither one going in.  Carlyle drops a close one 5-4.

The puck dropped on game two Saturday the 14th in Carlyle.  This one began right where the last one left off, fast and furious.  Once again those pesky Devils were able to draw first blood eleven minutes in, adding two more in the last two minutes for a three goal lead after one. The young Cats tried to close the gap in the second, scoring three goals in the period; the Devils added five of their own however, digging the Cats into a five goal hole after two periods of play. The Red Devils turned up the heat in the third and the Cougars just didn’t have an answer. Carnduff kept the pressure up until the final buzzer sounded closing out their season with a 15-3 win.

The Pee Wee Cougars had a great year, showing progression throughout. Culminating in a second round showdown with the league’s top team; giving them a run for their money. Game one was hands down one of the best games I have watched.  Great job kids, your wind up is on the 17th and you have earned it.   Hats off to the coaches for all of their hard work and effort; every Pee Wee Cougar made huge strides this year.  See you next year.  Gooooooooooooo Cougars.
