On Tuesday February 6th the Kipling Royals travelled to Carlyle for a regular league game. Chase Robertson hit the ice skating, focused on the puck he wasted no time taking it from the opposition and leaving it their net.

With Darcy Rae angling the players away from our net and Samantha Colpitts lifting their sticks before they could take a shot this left Carlyle in the lead after the second period. Blake Robertson lays the pressure on the Royals on every shift, being the team player he is he makes sure he takes a good look before he passes the puck, and with Mitch Himmelspach always focused on the play, catches the pass and fires it in the net adding another goal to the scoreboard for the home team. Everett Brown is always looking for action along the blue line and you can be sure he's the one who will come out of his corner with the puck and clearing out of our end. The Kipling Royals played a great game but the Cougars came out ahead 10-6.

Carlyle Novice Cougars' hometown hockey tournament

Eight Hockey teams travelled to Carlyle this week end to take part in a two day hockey tournament. The Cougars played their first game at 12:00 against Melita and Tyrell Dixon was quick on the draw and gained possession of the puck not wasting any time getting to the net. Always putting pressure on the player with the puck, Jackson Humphries never gave Melita a chance to make a play. With good old dependable

Blake Robertson on defense,Melita had to come up with a different strategy to get the puck in our end. Samantha Colpitts always gets in position when the pucks in our zone, knowing it's her job to help protect her net and get the puck out of her end. The Cougars were tough competition for Melita but in the end Melita took this game for a win. It was still a win-win for both teams though, during the tournament all the teams have the opportunity to participate in the pizza shootout where each player takes a turn shooting on the opposing net and whichever team scores the most goals in four minutes wins the pizza. With all the kids full of energy and excitement, Grady Benjamin flew out of the players box rushed the puck up the ice putting it in Melita's net and there you have it the Cougars won the pizza shoot out.

Carlyle challenged Whitewood in their second game of the Tournament and Everett Brown made it a sure thing that he never let the puck near his net while he was on the ice. Daine Thomas is like a secret weapon out there on the ice, he's not very big but he can skate fast and has a nice shot that always gets the puck in the net. Helping her team stay in the game Darcy Rae who's always motivated on the ice angled off every player who tried to make their way to the net. With his teams hard work ethic on the ice Ty Fehrenbach only adds to it because every time he's on the ice he makes things happen. During a hockey game the players bench is always rotating but there is one player who stands his position for the whole game "the goalie" with Alexander Bradley on his game he managed to keep the puck from crossing the goal line which is why Alex deserved to win the "player of the game award" for this game. The Cougars won their battle against Whitewood and would move on to challenge the Redvers Rockets.

Watching this game from the stands you could tell Redvers wanted this game just as much as the Cougars did. Kale Arndt is persistent when on the ice and he seems to bring the play to the opponent on every shift which resulted in a nice goal for his team during the first period. Mitch Himmelspach had the fans on their feet as he made a nice pass from the boards to the center of the ice in the neutral zone where Chase Robertson catches it and dances through the traffic and places the puck in the net. Max Waugh reads the play and with some quick thinking passes the puck behind the net where Mason Barta grabs hold and with some fancy stick work slides it in the net claiming a nice goal and earning himself the "player of the game award". The Rockets took this game for a win but the Cougars left the ice smiling with their big trophy and medals they earned with all their great team work.
