Big Six semifinals are set

MOOSOMIN - The season has come to an end for the Carlyle Cougars.

Fifth-seeded Carlyle lost 6-2 to the No. 4 Moosomin Rangers Tuesday night in Moosomin in Game 3 of their best-of-three Big Six Hockey League semifinal showdown.

Justin Lamontagne had the lone goal for Moosomin in the first period, and then Monty Driver, Jevon Schwean and Jacob Pillar added tallies in the opening 10 minutes of the second for the Rangers.

Brett Turgeon in the second and Rhett Palmer in the third had goals for Carlyle to cut the lead in half.

Driver and Pillar scored for Moosomin in the final minutes of the third.

Ryan Kulyk was in goal for the Cougars, while Kyler Beckett was the Moosomin netminder.

Moosomin will face the top-seeded Redvers Rockets in the semifinal round.

Also on Tuesday, the No. 2 Carnduff Red Devils edged the No. 7 Bienfait Coalers 3-2 in Carnduff to win the best-of-three series 2-1. Bienfait led 2-1 after the first period, and the scored remained in tact through two, but Carnduff scored twice in the third.

Carnduff will face the third-seeded Yellow Grass Wheat Kings in the other semifinal.
