The Estevan Bruins celebrate after scoring against Flin Flon on Saturday night.

ESTEVAN - The latest memorable game between the Estevan Bruins and the Flin Flon Bombers was played Saturday night at Affinity Place.

The Bombers defeated the Bruins 7-6 in overtime – a game the Bombers led 5-2 after the first period. Alameda’s Cody Davis had a hat trick for the Bruins.

Jeremi Tremblay opened the scoring 4:37 into the first period. It remained a 1-0 game until just over seven minutes remained in the opening frame, when Mitch Kohner scored for the Bruins. Goals by Alexi Sylvestre and Cole Duperreault 18 seconds apart gave the Bombers a 3-1 advantage.

Davis scored his first of the night 95 seconds after Duperreault’s goal, but Sylvestre and Duperreault scored 34 seconds apart with less than two minutes to play in the opening frame for the three-goal Bomber advantage.

The Bruins pulled Cam Hrdlicka after the first period and inserted Jackson Miller. The Bombers outshot the Bruins 15-6 in the middle frame, but Jagjeevan Phangura had the lone goal to pull the Bruins to within two.

Davis scored short-handed 3:35 into the third to pull the Bruins to within one. The Bombers finally solved Miller when Matt Egan scored five minutes after Davis.

Goals by Gabriel Filion and Davis in the final five minutes of the third tied the game.

Zach Cain picked up the winner with 18 seconds to play in overtime.

A season-high 1,379 fans attended the game.

Flin Flon’s win also ended a stretch of 11 straight wins for the home team in this rivalry. It included one game in last year’s regular season, the seven games of the 2022-23 SJHL final, and the first three meetings between the teams this season.

The Bruins (24-19-2-2) will be back on the ice on Wednesday night when they host the Melville Millionaires starting at 7 p.m.
