What's it going to take to slow Dana Brandt this year?A spike belt across the track, maybe, though even that provides no guarantees the way Brandt has been driving to start the 2010 racing season.The Minot, N.D.-based driver set an Estevan Motor Speedway first Sunday when he won his fourth straight hobby stock feature race at the track.Sunday's event was the second half of a weekend doubleheader at the Speedway that started Saturday.The previous record of three consecutive hobby stock wins was set by Davin Emmel from July 27-Sept. 13, 2003."The car is handling awesome this year," Brandt said Monday. "That's what we worked on over the winter and it's definitely been time well spent."Brandt's Sunday win also gave him a share of the track record for most hobby stock wins in a season, alongside Emmel, Chris Scholpp, Brad Lisafeld, and Rob Curtis.It's not just Estevan where Brandt is running well either. Entering the weekend he was two-for-two in the winner's circle at Geographical Center Speedway in Rugby, N.D. and had made the podium three times in four attempts at Underwood, N.D.'s McLean County Speedway."He's just a smooth driver," said EMS president James Gustafson. "He's steady on the accelerator and everybody says that he's a great anticipator. He anticipates all the bumps."I was talking to some of the guys last night and one thing you have to know about racing from the previous lap is to remember where the bad spots are in the track so that you can take a different line the next time around, and they say he's just really good at that."Less than halfway through the racing season in Estevan, Brandt's hot start has given him a 19-point lead atop the IMCA hobby stock standings. Austin Daae and Dallas Rice currently sit second with 141 points each.In the IMCA modified division Aaron Turnbull won Sunday for the third time in four tries at EMS this season but saw his lead atop the standings shrink considerably after failing to finish Saturday's feature.Jim Harris, Joren Boyce, and Les McLenehan all gained considerable ground on Turnbull. With 141 points Turnbull now leads Harris by five, Boyce by seven, and McLenehan by 12.It was an especially strong weekend for McLenehan who won Saturday's mod feature and finished second on Sunday.And Nathan Burke was unable to three-peat in the IMCA street stock feature, but expanded his lead atop the standings nonetheless thanks to a second-place finish Saturday and a third-place finish Sunday.Winners of those features were Rocky Alexander and Kelly Henderson.Burke has 157 points and leads Joe Flory by 11.The top five finishers for each feature race from Saturday's race program at Estevan Motor Speedway are as follows:IMCA hobby stock -1.
