WEYBURN - The 60th consecutive Borderline Men’s Fastball League Championship Tournament (commonly referred to as Trophy Day) will be held this upcoming weekend, July 22 and 23 in Midale. All seven teams in the league will be competing.
The Weyburn Renegades secured top spot in the league standings and secured a first round bye in the tournament, after claiming a big win in Plentywood on July 16. With a flurry of games played last week, other spots in the standings were pretty much set as well but, a key make-up game this week with Lake Alma at Ogema will help determine fifth and sixth place.
In what may be his final year as commissioner of the league, Richard Wick is encouraging all fast-pitch softball fans to come out to Midale during the weekend to watch some games and support the league. The action is high speed and competitive. Games will start as early as 9 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday, with the final game scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sunday evening.
Men’s fast-pitch softball is not as prominent as it once was and is not played in many areas anymore. The Borderline league has survived 60 consecutive years. The tournament will be historic. Admission to the event is $10 per day for adults, with children age 12 and under free. The Midale ball park is located right in Midale, across the tracks. Follow the trail north of the school. There is ample room for parking and lots of viewing room. There are bleachers but bring a lawn chair if you want preferred seating.
