CARLYLE - The Big Six Hockey League held its annual general meeting this past weekend.
The Oxbow Huskies are now able to field a team and their franchise has been reinstated after a two-year leave of absence. The Moosomin Rangers also received approval to join the Big Six after playing in Manitoba the past few years.
Rangers president Lyndon Jacobs advised: “Our team has decided to return to the Big Six due to likely ongoing COVID restriction issues across provincial borders. As well, the Big Six is a very stable league.
Years ago, Moosomin was previously in the Big Six Hockey League and won the championship back in 2003-04.
In other news, the Arcola-Kisbey Combines have been granted a one-year leave of absence and will not be fielding a team this season. Additionally, the Saskatchewan Hockey Association has advised that all players, referees, coaches, and team personnel either have to wear cloth masks or be double-vaccinated in 2021-22. The league unanimously decided on the latter.
League president Rae Wright is retiring after serving seven years.
“I enjoyed my tenure as being president of the league,“ said Wright. “The two COVID years were tough, but all of us, players, executive, and fans, are ready for an exciting year of Big Six Hockey.”
