Big Six Hockey League delivered four one-goal games on the weekend

The Big Six Hockey League had another busy weekend.

SOUTHEAST SASKATCHEWAN - Fans of the Big Six Hockey League were treated to some close, entertaining hockey games on the weekend.

The Redvers Rockets edged the Carlyle Cougars 5-4 in a shootout Friday night. Carlyle had a 2-0 lead in the second period, thanks to Boston Bird scoring in the first period and early in the second. Redvers rallied with three in the second, with markers from Koltyn Miller, Braeden Magotiaux and Presten Kopeck.

Nikita Kovalenko scored 49 seconds into the third to tie the game for Carlyle. Kopeck added his second of the game a few minutes later but Jon Gaudet tied the game again for the Cougars.

The Rockets outscored the Cougars 2-0 in the shootout.

Koby Morrisseau had three helpers for the Cougars.

Thomas Bauche (Redvers) and Landon Audet (Carlyle) were the goalies.

Also on Friday, the Bienfait Coalers beat the Oxbow Huskies 3-2. Kaelen Holt scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period and added two assists, and Taysen Holt had Bienfait's other two goals.

Liam Rutten and Derek Cooney tallied for Oxbow.

Zack Miller (Bienfait) and Cody Levesque (Oxbow) were the goalies.

Friday's other game saw the Moosomin Rangers crush the Wawota Flyers 10-1. After a scoreless first period, the Rangers exploded for six in the second period and two early in the third for an 8-0 lead. After the Flyers scored once, the Rangers scored twice in nine seconds to hit double digits in goals.

Carter Sawchuk and Dawson Springer each scored twice for Moosomin. Bud Holloway, Jaxon Elmes, Ryker Cole, Brayden Nabholz, Brock Trotter and Drayson Skulmoski had the Rangers' other goals. Levi Horn was their goaltender.

Phil Fath had the Flyers' goal. Brendan Rinn and Winston Grayson shared the goaltending duties.

Three more games were played Saturday. The Carnduff Red Devils beat the Bienfait Coalers 4-3. Carson Cayer opened the scoring for the Coalers midway through the first, but Nico Anderson replied for Carnduff 80 seconds later.

The Red Devils took over in the second, with Callan Carlton scoring 97 seconds into the frame, Alexandre Soucy adding to the lead and Ty Stovin putting Carnduff ahead by three with 19 seconds remaining.

Derian Pratt and Wyatt Garagan scored for the Coalers in the third.

Jackson Walliser was in goal for Bienfait, and Mason Plews was the Carnduff netminder.

The Oxbow Huskies scored six times in about 11 minutes in the second period and crushed the Kipling-Windthorst Oil Kings 13-1.

Cody Davis (two goals and three assists) and Brycen Odgers (three goals and two assists) each had five points for Oxbow. Colton Schell scored twice, and Carey Levesque, Corey Fitzpatrick, Dawson Schaff, Joey Meredith, Dylan Hull and Jordan Cooney notched the other goals.

Austin Fleck had the long goal for the Oil Capitals.

Cody Levesque was in goal for the Huskies, while Zachary Barath and Austin Toth split goaltending duties for the Kings.

The Wawota Flyers defeated the Midale Mustangs 8-7 in overtime. Ashton Wilson scored the winner 2:13 into the extra frame.

Connor Burk had two goals and two assists for Midale in a four-point game. Kendall Oliver, Brayden Bjorndal, Matt Geske, Brad Tomiski and Cain Thomson had Midale's other goals.

Brady Dinwoodie and Blake Rasmuson each had two goals and two assists for Wawota. Phil Fath and two goals and Wyatt Fisk also scored.

Talen King (Midale) and Winston Grayson (Wawota) were the goalies.

The Coalers will visit the Rockets and the Red Devils will be at the Rangers on Nov. 24. The Cougars will visit the Oil Kings the following night. Those games will start at 8 p.m.

Games for Nov. 26 will be the Mustangs at the Rockets and the Coalers at the Oil Kings. Both those games start at 5 p.m.
