REGINA - Local hockey fans will have an extra reason to watch the Esso Cup national female U18 AAA hockey championship, which starts Sunday in Prince Albert.
Chloe Sorenson, who hails from Bienfait, is a goalie for the Regina Rebels, who will be the West region representatives at the tournament.
She has played with the Rebels the last two seasons. She went 9-4 this season with a 2.55 goals against average and a .883 save percentage. She won 21 games and picked up six shutouts in her time with Regina.
Sorenson has committed to play for the Minot State Beavers next season.
Regina went 24-5-1 in the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League this season. They defeated the Saskatoon Stars 2-1 in the best-of-three league final, taking Game 3 6-0.
Then they swept the Winnipeg Ice in the best-of-three West Region final, with both games going to overtime.
The Rebels are making their first appearance since 2013.
Six teams from across Canada are entered.
