The Carlyle Atom Cougars, coached by Brian Hagel, Todd Magotiaux & Troy Turner have had a difficult week. On Tuesday Dec 3rd, we visited Alameda to take on the Rink Rats. Our goalie Zane Winter has been having a great year. He practically stands on his head make the save! Alameda took an early lead as the Cougars struggled to come up with the puck and generate some scoring opportunities. In the third period after a bitter struggle in the corner, Cooper Humphries was able to center a pass, setting Logan Romaniuk up for the Cougars only goal. That game ended in a 7-1 loss.
On Sunday, December 8th the Atom team was on the road for a game against Redvers 1. This was another strong game for Zane, facing upwards of 50 shots on goal, but our offense struggled. We were badly out-skated, but finally showed some spunk in the 3rd period. Coty Hofos came up with a goal deflecting one of Hayden McArthur's slap-shots from the blue line. Nate Robertson showed off his speed as he raced Redvers into their end & fired a nicely placed wrist-shot past their goalie. The Cougars dropped this one 11-2.
Practices continue Tuesday and Wednesdays, with a home game on Saturday, Dec 14th at 1:00pm against Wawota. There is a bit of a break for Christmas, with games resuming January 4th & 5th. Good luck team!
