The Arcola Senior Boys Volleyball Team has been having quite the season with a record of 28 wins and two losses. On Oct. 27th the team, made up of four grade 12s, 4 grade 11s, and three grade 10s, hosted their home tournament.

The one-day tournament saw teams from Midale, Milestone, Lampman, and Gladmar visit Arcola. Throughout the day the teams saw Arcola surge to a quick lead placing first in the round robin. The rest of the teams fought hard for each match, many heading into three sets.

In the end Midale, Milestone, and Gladmar had a three way tie in the round robin. Through determining points for and against it was Milestone that would face Arcola in the final. The first set went rather well with Arcola easily taking it. The next set saw Milestone put up a strong fight and Arcola was forced to claw back from a deficit. In the end Arcola made up the difference and dug deep to achieve the win.

The boys will be hosting both 2A Conferences, to be held on Nov. 10, and Provincials, to be held on Nov. 23 and 24. Going into these important tournaments the coach, Eugene Brown, is confident in how his team is looking.

"We're pretty solid," Brown stated.

Referring to their season so far Brown had one word to describe it, "Wicked."

"We've only had like two losses in the season," Brown said excited about the upcoming matches.

In regards to Provincials the two-day tournament will be held in both the Carlyle and Arcola gymnasiums. In order to get the Arcola gym ready for action there are plans in place of creating more seating for fans. The bleachers on the upper level are to be expanded. Currently there is a mesh fence separating the one set of bleachers they do have from the weight machines behind. The hope is to eliminate the mesh fence and set up more spectator seats.

To do this, however and to host the teams coming for Provincials the community is asked to get involved in some way. Whether it is through donations/sponsorships or volunteers to help make the tournament run smoothly it is an event that will bolster businesses in the community.

Approximately 170 athletes and their families will be in the area. The influx of people to the area will be hosted by the communities. Businesses will find themselves servicing these volleyball enthusiasts in a number of ways. From shopping to eating to a place to stay, the surrounding area will be hosting them.

For more information regarding donations or volunteering for the event contact Mary McNair through email: [email protected], or text her at 575-7220.
