Noise, disruptions, altercations and general disturbances were the order of the evening for members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) on the night of Friday, July 16. Police said that on that night they were first asked to tend to a noise complaint in the Pleasantdale area of the city around 11 p.m. Someone was playing a musical instrument much too loudly, so he was warned about the city's noise bylaw and no further action was required. A gathering at a residence in the Hillside area of the city caused some concern, prompting a call to police who attended the scene but discerned there were no problems or activities that required police action, so they concluded the investigation. A disturbance at a residence in the central part of the city, around 3 a.m. on July 17, however, did require police action. One person who was involved in the dispute left the residence for the evening so the matter was concluded. A local night club then contacted police after staff became concerned with problems that were erupting at closing time. Two people who had been involved in an altercation at the time were separated by police and sent on their way. A call to a residence in the Scotsburn area of the city was next on the police agenda in the early morning hours of July 17. When police arrived they found a common law couple arguing and it was learned that the disagreement had been going on for some time prior to police arrival. The matter was eventually resolved and no further action was required by police. On the night of July 17 police set up an investigation regarding a domestic assault, as well as willful damage, which had occurred as a result of a dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend. Charges are pending against the man but few details are being released by police at this point in the investigation and the accused is still being sought by EPS members. A barking dog complaint was responded to on the night of July 17. This incident was occurring on the north side of the city. The dog owner was warned about the city bylaw regarding care and control of pets and noise. EPS members were next called to a local lounge after a patron refused to pay his tab. Police, while looking into the matter, noted that the patron believed he had already paid the bill so the matter is being looked at with the involvement of both the customer and the lounge management. A noisy party complaint attracted police attention at around 2:30 a.m. on July 18. This complaint came from the Pleasantdale area of the city. The owner was warned about the city's noise bylaw. On the night of July 18, EPS members noted that charges are pending against three young people following an investigation into several incidents of vehicle damage and theft from vehicles, plus damages to an outdoor swimming pool and trampoline. The reports were filed on July 6 and 7 and through investigation the arrests were made and a large amount of property that had been stolen was recovered. The investigation is continuing. A 33-year-old Estevan man was arrested and charged with assault and willful damage following a domestic assault call on the night of July 18. The man was released on conditions, pending a court appearance on August 12. EPS members also attended to a business area in the central part of the city on the night of July 18. Observers had noted a number of people loitering around a certain property and concerns were expressed that some damage might have been/was going to be inflicted on the property. When police arrived they did not notice any apparent damages and the subjects in question had left the scene prior to police arrival. An 18-year-old man was arrested and lodged in cells and faced a July 19 court date after he was seen breaking a window in a neighbourhood garage around 4 a.m. on July 18. When he was confronted, the suspect fled on foot with the complainant in pursuit. The complainant apprehended the suspect and held him until police arrived a short time after to take the suspect into custody. He is now facing charges of mischief (willful damage) and for breaching conditions of a probation order.
