WEYBURN – The Relay for Cancer fundraiser event held on Friday evening raised over $10,000 for the Saskatchewan Cancer Foundation, with around 60 people of all ages walking the track at the Credit Union Spark Centre.
The event also included a raffle table and 50/50 tickets, plus teams and groups were able to raise and donate funds to the foundation.
The Weyburn Credit Union presented a donation of $3,373, collected from staff and the Credit Union, with a team of employees taking part in the relay walk.
In addition, the website for the event saw online donations totaling $10,220, not including the donations made at the relay registration table.
Organizer Contessa Hill said she borrowed the idea from the Relay for Life events that used to be held a number of years ago, with the idea to designate the funds raised from this event towards cancer patients who stay in Regina for treatments.
