WEYBURN – Jo Anne Bannatyne-Cugnet has entered into an agreement for the sponsorship of Theatre B located in The Credit Union Spark Cinema. Theatre B will be one of two theatre rooms in the new movie theatre complex and comes with a commitment of $150,000. Theatre B will now be called The Soo Theatre, Sponsored by Valleyview Petroleums Ltd.
The project holds a special place in Jo Anne’s heart with her children having spent many hours at the old Soo Theatre.
“Movies on main is an important part of Weyburn’s history and this new facility will provide my grandchildren with the same opportunity as my children had when they were growing up.”
Jo Anne went on to say, “The new theatre will revitalize downtown Weyburn while preserving some of the history by keeping the Soo name a part of the project.”
“Jo Anne and her family are true ambassadors for our community,” said WTCSC board member, Sean Purdue. “We are beyond excited to partner with Jo Anne and thrilled that she shares our passion of bringing a modern movie experience to Weyburn, while maintaining the rich history of the Soo Theatre. We still have a lot of work to do, but this is a big leap forward in our fundraising efforts.”
The sponsorship brings WTCSC’s fundraising total to $1,175,000 toward their preliminary goal of $1,600,000.
