WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 99 calls for service during the week of January 31 through February 6, resulting in three charges laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, six under the Traffic Safety Act, and three under the Summary Offences Procedure Act.
Police were called to assist Weyburn EMS on two occasions for suspected overdose incidents. The first involved an unconscious person who required police to administer Naloxone. The individual regained consciousness.
On the second occasion, police were called to assist Weyburn EMS with a suspected overdose. EMS was on scene before police arrived and had to administer Naloxone to revive the individual. Both individuals declined further medical assistance.
Weyburn Fire and Police were called to fire at a business on the east side of Weyburn. While the WFD dealt with the fire, WPS members assisted with traffic control in the area. Police provided similar assistance to WFD on a second call to a residence on the south side of the city.
WPS received a call from an individual reporting a domestic assault. Both WPS and Weyburn EMS responded to the call, which resulted in the victim being transported to Weyburn General Hospital for assessment. The suspect was located and arrested and subsequently charged with assault. The individual was released from police custody with no contact conditions and a future court date.
A traffic stop was performed on a vehicle in the downtown area of Weyburn. The driver of the vehicle showed signs of impairment and was required to perform the mandatory ASD, which resulted in a “Fail”. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged for operating a vehicle while impaired and exceed the legal blood-alcohol limit. The individual will be making a court appearance at a future date.
