Weyburn police were busy with 78 calls for service in the past week.

The Weyburn Police Service responded to 78 calls for service during the week of Sept. 13-19, resulting in a total of 15 charges. Of the charges, eight were under the Criminal Code of Canada and four under the Traffic Safety Act. During the week, a total of five charges were laid against individuals that either failed to attend court when required, or failed to comply with a condition of their release.

An adult male faces a charge of assault causing bodily harm after officers were called to a reported domestic dispute at a residence. The adult male was arrested and later released on conditions with an upcoming court date.

Thanks to the quick intervention of an alert store employee, an elderly individual was saved from purchasing a very large amount of gift cards. The employee spoke to the individual and alerted the police. The attending officer advised the individual it was a scam and a loss of a significant amount of money was avoided.

One motorist received a three-day driver’s license suspension and had their vehicle impounded for the same amount of time following a traffic stop in which the officer noted signs of impairment. The driver submitted to a roadside screening test which resulted in the suspension.

The week saw several hit-and-run incidents being reported to the police. The Weyburn Police Service requests that anyone that witnesses an incident involving a vehicle leaving the scene after a collision, to contact the Weyburn Police and report what they witnessed.  One driver was charged under the Traffic Safety Act for failing to report a collision after police obtained video surveillance from a local business identifying the offending vehicle and driver.

Officers were notified of a person that was reported missing from a local health facility. The individual failed to return after going out for a walk and the staff was concerned for his wellbeing. The adult male was not located for several hours, but officers were later contacted by a motorist who gave him a ride and provided a location. Officers attended and were able to convince the individual to willingly return to the health facility.

Also during the week, officers encountered two individuals that were found to have outstanding warrants for their arrest. The individuals were arrested and released with an upcoming court date as directed by the police agency that held the applicable warrant.

Anyone with information regarding one of these matters, or any other matter of a criminal nature, is encouraged to contact the Weyburn Police Service at (306) 848-3250, the local RCMP Detachment at 310-RCMP (7267), or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
