WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 70 calls for service during the period of June 20 to 26, resulting in a total of 16 charges. Of the charges, 11 were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada and five under the Traffic Safety Act. Six of the Criminal Code charges were the result of individuals who failed to comply with a condition of their release.
Officers responded to a reported assault on Wednesday evening that resulted in an adult male facing several charges. The male, facing charges of uttering a threat, two counts of assault with a weapon, and two counts of failing to comply with a condition of his release, was arrested and later released with an upcoming court appearance.
Officers were kept busy during and after the torrential rains that came with the storm on June 20. Poor visibility and flooded streets caused motorists grief as they tried to get where they were going. Vehicles navigating through flooded streets can also create waves that can cause damage to nearby homes and buildings.
An adult male is facing a charge of theft following an investigation into the theft of several packs of cigarettes from a convenience store on the morning of June 21. The male was charged and released with an upcoming court date.
Officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 16th Street and East Avenue on June 21. Both vehicles required towing from the scene, and although one occupant was transported to the hospital for further examination, no significant injuries resulted. An adult male was charged for proceeding from a stop sign before safe to do so.
On Wednesday afternoon, the City of Weyburn hosted an open house at their new Public Works facility. The open house featured the city’s Public Works, Fire Department, and Police Service, including the three canines: “Beaumont” from Victim Services, Weyburn Police Service’s “Oakley”, and the Fire Department’s “Jessi”. Guests were also treated to a barbecue.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, officers received a report of a vehicle being driven erratically at a high rate of speed on a highway near Weyburn. The matter is currently under investigation.
Officers responded to a variety of other calls during the week, including requests for wellbeing checks, alarms, noise, suspicious persons, mental health concerns, and more.
