WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 114 calls for service during the week of May 23 to 29, resulting in a total of 30 charges. Of the charges, 23 were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, three under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), two under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), and two under the Summary Offences Procedure Act (SOPA).
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance which resulted in an adult male being arrested and taken into custody on May 25. The male faces several charges including assault, possession of property obtained by crime, failing to comply with a probation order, and two charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
A significant amount of methamphetamine and cash was seized in relation to the arrest.
With the Saskatchewan Oil and Gas Show happening in Weyburn this week, the Weyburn Police would like to remind everyone to drive safe and be alert as the city will be a very busy place with many people attending Weyburn for the event and related festivities.
The Weyburn police will have an increased presence with additional officers on duty during the busy week of the oil show, and the following week will see an even higher presence of officers as many police agencies will be in the city as part of the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) being held in Weyburn on Wednesday and Thursday, June 8 and 9.
As the result of an on-going investigation, and with the assistance of community residents, the Weyburn Police Service successfully obtained and executed a search warrant on two locations in the city on May 24, which yielded several items of stolen property and the arrest of two individuals.
An adult male faces charges of possessing property obtained by crime, failing to comply with a probation order, and five counts of failing to comply with a condition of his release; and an adult female faces charges of breaking and entering a residence, possessing property obtained by crime, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, and four counts of failing to comply with a condition of her release.
Both individuals have been remanded in custody pending a court appearance.
