School's nutrition program receives a big boost

Staff from Legacy Park and representatives of the Weyburn OTS gathered Friday for the presentation of a $5,000 donation for the school's nutrition program.

Administrative staff for Legacy Park Elementary School gathered with representatives of the Weyburn Oilfield Technical Society (OTS) to receive a $5,000 donation for the school’s nutrition program on Friday morning.

From left to right are vice-principal Jacalyn Neilmeyer, vice-principal Tyson O’Dell, principal Arlene Dobson and Shannon Seitz, education liaison, along with OTS reps Luke Guest, Shane Pollock, Bill Pittman, Marlin Robins, James Cameron and Tyler Tollefson.

The OTS, formerly known as the Weyburn Oilmen’s Association, raised the funds at their annual golf tournament held on Aug. 20. They make a donation each year with the proceeds of the tournament, to a community group or organization.

The nutrition program had formerly been located at Souris School, but this year Souris students and staff were combined with the students from Haig and Queen Elizabeth schools, for a total of 571 students as of Friday, so the needs for the nutrition program are much bigger.

As Seitz explained, it's also more expensive as due to COVID, all of the lunch or breakfast items have to be individually wrapped for the students, rather than just serving the food continental-style as in the past.
