This years Weyburn Fair had the second best attendance in the past 15 years with 10, 280 people attending the fair, according to Treva Tollefson of the Weyburn Ag Society. The attendance on July 5 was 2,491, July 6 had 3,835, and attendance on July 7 was the highest, with 3,954.Overall the fair went really well. We did have to do some scrambling with the rain but it quit so people could come back and enjoy themselves. We were also quite pleased with the amount of people that came out to see the heavy horse pull, which was a new attraction this year, said Wendy Neiszner, president of the Weyburn Agriculture Society.Shannon Sabados, secretary of the Weyburn Agriculture Society, said, The fair went very well, I havent heard any complaints. The demo derby went good with the grandstands packed for this event. The parade was held on Monday with 50 floats participating. The winners of the organization category was the Weyburn Rider Nation, commercial category winner was the Canadian Tire float and Herb Morris was the individual category winner. The 4-H calf show went very well with 156 calves being sold at an average of $2.98 a pound, said Sabados.Neiszner also said the calf show was a great success with sales going very well.According to Sabados, the midway also did good and there were no complaints.
The rides looked a little different this year because we had to compensate with the construction, so it wasnt as spread out. I havent heard any complaining as far as I know, so it was good. The food booths also did very well, said Neiszner. The Youth Talent Search held on the Monday and Tuesday evenings were successful. There were seven acts in the junior category and five acts in the senior category. The junior idol winner was Paris Lyon and the senior idol winner was Brooke Alexander. Both winners will advance to the provincial Youth Talent Search to be held at the Saskatoon Exhibition on Aug. 10-14.Volunteers were down a little this year and the Agriculture Society could always use more.
