Weyburn area Regional Parks celebrating Canada Day

Canada's 155th birthday will be celebrated with many activities.

WEYBURN – Nickle Lake Regional Park, Mainprize Regional Park and Oungre Memorial Regional Park will all be celebrating Canada Day on Friday, July 1, with many activities for families to take in.

The festivities at Nickle Lake will go on both Friday and Saturday, July 1-2, starting with a bike parade throughout the park that gathers at 10 a.m. at the Beaver Den and starts at 10:15 a.m.

This will be followed by activities at the Beaver Den, and the paddling pool will be open.

Entertainment will be provided on both days at the beer gardens, with Doug Schaefer performing from 3-5 p.m. on July 1, and Dennis and Curtis Ficor from 5-8 p.m. On July 2, Richy Roy entertains from 3 to 8 p.m., and Last Train West plays from 8 to 10:30 p.m.

The Souris River Smoke Showdown will run the two days, with participants to cook chicken, ribs, pork butt and brisket.

At Mainprize, there will be bouncy castles open at 9 a.m. on July 1, a climbing wall will be available from 1-4 p.m., and a cart parade through the park will take place at 2 p.m., with fireworks after dark.

A free pancake breakfast will be held on Saturday, July 2 from 8 a.m. to noon, and the park’s 10th annual Slo-Pitch Tournament will be held from July 1-3.

The activities at Oungre Memorial Regional Park will start with a pancake breakfast from 8-10:30 a.m., and will include an antique tractor show from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., a cornhole tourney starting at 10:30, bouncy castles opening at 10 a.m., and a car show and shine from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A Gospel Jamboree is slated from 2 to 5 p.m., featuring the Daae family, the Hansen Trio, and Derek Rude.

Face-painting will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a parade will be held at 1 p.m., with all children invited to bring their bikes.

Swimming will be available from 1-5 and 6-9 p.m., and the day will wrap up with fireworks at 10 p.m.
