Weyburn and area charitable groups receive gaming grants

Groups and organizations that conduct charitable gaming activities in Weyburn and the surrounding area are receiving charitable gaming grants from the last quarter.

WEYBURN – Groups and organizations that conduct charitable gaming activities in Weyburn and the surrounding area are receiving charitable gaming grants paid out during the latest quarter.

In Weyburn, the recipients include the Royal Canadian Legion, Weyburn branch, which receives $1,366; the Weyburn and District Junior Hockey Association, $1,991; the Weyburn Humane Society, $629; and the Weyburn Lacrosse Association, $305.

The Weyburn Oilwomen Association receives $1,843; the Weyburn Senior Beavers Baseball Club, $1,411; Weyburn Silver Seals Speed Swimming Club, $66; Weyburn Soccer Association, $295; and the Weyburn Wheatland Seniors Centre, $385.

The Highway 39 Barrel Racing Series, based out of Yellow Grass, receives $462; the Francis Fire Department receives $156, and the Milestone School Outdoor Education program receives $338.

The Deep Â鶹ÊÓƵ Personal Care Corp. in Pangman receives $1,215, and the Pangman Ladies Health Auxiliary got $162; the Radville Laurier Recreation Development Fund receives $3,116, and the Radville Public Library, $196, and the Stoughton Lions Club receives $480.

"Charitable gaming grants recognize the important fundraising efforts done by so many community groups who are focused on giving back to their community," Minister Responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority Lori Carr said.

"The financial support provided through these grants will allow more than 700 groups and organizations to provide further enhancements in the areas of youth sports, recreation for seniors, health care and a number of educational endeavours."

The quarterly grants are based on a percentage of net proceeds raised through licensed charitable gaming activities such as bingos, raffles, break-open tickets, Texas Hold'em poker and Monte Carlo events. Charitable gaming reports submitted by groups are used by SLGA to automatically calculate grant amounts.
