Weyburn Ag Society to hold ‘Friends of Isaiah’ fundraiser

An all-day fundraiser event will be held by the Weyburn Ag Society for Isaiah Evans and his family on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Exhibition Hall.

WEYBURN – An all-day fundraiser event will be held by the Weyburn Ag Society for Isaiah Evans and his family on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Exhibition Hall, including a movie and silent auction.

The fundraiser is part of an ongoing campaign towards the goal of $100,000 for a medical transit van to safely transport Isaiah to community events or to medical appointments.

The movie night will feature one of Isaiah’s favourite heroes, Spider-Man, in his latest animated feature, “Across the Spider-Verse”, for which fans are encouraged to dress up if they so wish.

The doors open for the movie at 6:45 p.m. and the movie starts at 7 p.m.

There will be a cash concession available, and chairs will be provided, but people are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs if they wish.

During the day, Exhibition Hall will be busy with a craft and trade market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., bouncy houses from 10 to 6 p.m., and a silent auction, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., along with a canteen that will feature baking and taco-in-a-bag.

The campaign began as a way to assist the Evans family, as Isaiah currently is laid across the back bench of their vehicle to go any distance, such as to medical appointments at the Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon, as a standard vehicle cannot accommodate his wheelchair.

A number of fundraiser events have been held in the past year, and the hope is that this event will push them closer to the goal. As of Tuesday evening, the grand total sat at $77,808.

Organizers are looking for more vendors for the market, or items of any kind for the silent auction, including gift certificates for products or services, baskets of goodies, or any other items people might like to donate.

Items can be dropped off at the Exhibition Hall on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., or on Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m., prior to the opening of the hall for the event.

For those who wish to donate but are unable to make the event, they can make a direct deposit at the Weyburn Credit Union, or send an e-transfer to [email protected].
