The Carlyle Detachment of the RCMP received reports of 102 incidents between May 17 and 23.
Notification
RCMP received a notice for a "Walk for Justice" being done on May 24 regarding issues at Pheasant Rump concerning Chief Terry McArthur who is facing charges in court. RCMP were notified, so they were aware of what was happening.
False alarms
Four 911 calls were received throughout this time though none were emergencies. Members remind people that 911 is to be used only in case of emergencies.
Two false alarms at businesses occurred over the course of the week.
Animal calls
There were two animal calls reported to RCMP. The first involved a dead deer, which was passed on by RCMP to the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM). The second call regarded a dog having bit a person in Kisbey. There were no injuries reported and the matter didn't require further investigation.
Assault
The week saw one assault, which took place over the long weekend. Four subjects were arrested for public drunkenness and one of the subjects, a 21-year-old female, assaulted an officer during the arrest. She will be facing criminal charges while the remaining three were charged under the Liquor Act.
Disturbances
A 35-year-old male had entered a residence and caused problems. RCMP attended and the individual left on his own accord. No charges were brought.
There was a single call of disturbing the peace in Carlyle that members attended. It was determined no offence had taken place and there were no charges laid.
A call of domestic disturbance in Redvers was reported. RCMP attended. The subjects calmed down and there was no offence committed, so no charges were laid.
Three complaints were received concerning individuals interfering with lawful enjoyment of property. RCMP attended and spoke with the parties involved; no charges were laid.
Four complaints of mischief occurred during this time. The first involved a damaged vehicle that had been parked at Kenosee Lake; there are no suspects at this time. The second regarded kids operating an ATV within the town of Carlyle; the youth were located and spoken to. The other two complaints involved minor damages that had been discovered by business owners.
Fire
Overall there were six fires reported. No injuries occurred during any of the fires, but a shed was damaged in a remote, rural area during one of the incidents. The other five were grass fires.
Theft
A complaint of theft in the Redvers area was reported after corral panels were taken. This matter remains under investigation.
Unsafe storage of firearms
A 22-year-old male was arrested for unsafe storage of firearms and is now facing charges.
Uttering Threats
Two complaints of persons uttering threats to harm others were reported. At the time no charges have been issued, though both cases remain under investigation.
Alcohol related infractions
Four impaired drivers are facing charges after being caught by RCMP. Two other impaired reports were called into RCMP, but members were unable to locate the suspects during patrols.
Under the Liquor Act there were six charges laid. A 23-year-old male, a 19-year-old male, and a 21-year-old male were each fined $360 for having liquor in their vehicles. A 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old male were both charged as minors consuming liquor and fined $360. A 21-year-old male and a 20-year-old male were charged for being intoxicated in public and fined $200. There were four other reports of intoxicated persons, but charges were not laid as the subjects were taken home by friends.
Traffic Infractions
There were two complaints of hit and runs. One was in the Carlyle area and RCMP have no leads or suspects. The second was at a business in Carlyle and members have a suspect; further investigation is required.
A total of 14 intersection tickets were handed out over the week. Each fine was $235.
One individual was charged $175 for driving with an unrestrained passenger under 16-year-old.
Nine speeding tickets were issued. A 45-year-old male was fined $138, a 48-year-old male was charged $133, a 35-year-old male was fined $226, a 40-year-old male was charged $328, a 37-year-old male was fined $230, a 48-year-old male was charged $235, a 39-year-old male was fined $240, an 80-year-old male was charged $184, and a 33-year-old male was fined $150.
A 41-year-old female was charged $125 for failing to pull over and stop for an emergency vehicle.
A 26-year-old male was charged $175 for driving at a speed greater than reasonable or safe and $150 for driving to the left of the solid centre line.
A 20-year-old male had his licence suspended for 24 hours.
An 80-year-old male was charged $235 for going through a stop sign and $280 for driving without reasonable consideration for others.
A 48-year-old male was fined $280 for using a cell phone while driving. RCMP also used a roadside screening device and his licence was suspended for 24 hours.
A 21-year-old male was charged $115 for having tint on the front side windows of his vehicle.
A 15-year-old was fined $150 for driving without a licence.
One vehicle was reported stolen on May 17. A vehicle was recovered at a farm near Antler that had been taken from the Leader area. The subject/s then proceeded to take a pick-up truck from this farm. RCMP are investigating with the help of Estevan's General Investigating Section (GIS) and the Manitoba RCMP. This vehicle theft is related to several others.
Three vehicle collisions throughout week, no serious injuries
Three collisions were reported between May 17 and 23. No one was injured in any of the collisions. A charge was laid in one of the incidents to an 88-year-old female for driving with undue care and attention. She was given a ticket of $280.
Other agencies assist during May long
In addition to the Carlyle RCMP efforts, a number of support units assisted during the May long weekend. Weyburn, Estevan, and Yorkton traffic services patrolled the area over the long weekend and laid a total of 263 charges. Two of these charges were for impaired driving and all other offences were provincial matters including 19 unregistered vehicles.
Other agencies also assisted with highway transport and they laid 20 charges totalling over $16,000 in fines and resulted in seven trucks being taken out of service.
