Wawota will host Remembrance Day service and banquet

Every year on Nov. 11 we remember those who fought for our country. Many gave their lives so that we may live in Canada with our rights and freedoms protected.

Every year on Nov. 11 we remember those who fought for our country. Many gave their lives so that we may live in Canada with our rights and freedoms protected. Many continue to provide this protection and stand up for what we, as Canadians, believe in. Today Canada is more focused on peace keeping missions, but whenever more has been demanded from those fighting for our country they have taken the challenge.

This year on Nov. 11 the Wawota Legion would like to invite everyone to a service they will be holding at 11 a.m. They will remember all those who fought and continue to fight for our country. The service will be held at the Town Hall and all are encouraged to show their respect through joining them here.

Following this service will be a banquet put on by the members of the Mountney Ladies Club, who are quite the cooks. The banquet will be held between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets are being sold in advance for the banquet. A dinner ticket may be obtained for $20 from one of four individuals: Ross Corkish at (306)739-2237; Morley Hamilton at (306)739-2680; Ken Colburn at (306)739-2460; and Barbara Dennis at (306)739-2896. Tickets will be available until Nov. 2.

The banquet will not only feature delicious food; but, it will be host to two speakers. A veteran from Afghanistan will be present to share experiences regarding the war. Another speaker will also be present having been deployed to Bosnia during the Yugoslav wars in the early 1990s.

It will be a day to remember the fallen and those who fought, as well as those who continue to fight, for our country.
